Antibiotic resistance in livestock: more at stake than steak.

چکیده
effects of intra-articular administration of granisetron on temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain was investigated in 11 patients with chronic polyarthritides. An analgesic effect superior to placebo has been shown previously. The change in TMJ movement pain intensity was negatively correlated to circulating 5-HT; that is, the higher the 5-HT before injection, the greater the reduction of pain intensity. The resting pain intensity reduction was not related to 5-HT. In conclusion, this study indicates a stronger shortterm analgesic effect on TMJ movement pain by intraarticular administration of the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist granisetron in patients with high levels of circulating 5-HT.

Geographical variation in antibiotic resistance profiles of Escherichia coli isolated from swine, poultry, beef and dairy cattle farm water retention ponds in Florida.
AIMS The aim of this study was to assess geographical variation in multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) profiles of livestock Escherichia coli as well as to evaluate the ability of MAR profiles to differentiate sources of faecal pollution. METHODS AND RESULTS More than 2000 E. coli isolates were collected from water retention ponds and manure of swine, poultry, beef and dairy farms in south, ...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance profiles of Salmonella serotypes isolated from animals in Iran: a meta-analysis
Background: Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a zoonotic bacterial disease. Widespread use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry production for different purposes such as treatment and growth promotion has led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella, causing treatment of Salmonella infections more difficult with each passing year. Aims: To determine the antibiotic resistance...
متن کاملComparison of Antimicrobial Resistance in Escherichia coli Strains Isolated From Healthy Poultry and Swine Farm Workers Using Antibiotics in Korea
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to compare the antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli isolates from faecal samples of workers who often use antibiotics. METHODS A total of 163E coli strains isolated from faecal samples of livestock workers (poultry and swine farm workers) and restaurant workers in the same regions as a control group were analyzed by agar disc diffusion to determine the...
متن کاملAntibiotics or Probiotics: Reducing Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotics are important to successful livestock production. Unfortunately use of antibiotics applies selection pressure that results in antibiotic resistance in exposed populations of bacteria and can also result in antibiotic residues in meat and milk from treated animals. Of major current concern is the risk of transfer of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes encoding resistance from peo...
متن کاملPrevalence and Antibiotic Resistance of Salmonella Serotypes in Chicken Meat of Ardabil, Northwestern Iran
Background and Objective: Salmonellosis is one of the most important zoonotic diseases; most of the infections caused by the consumption of contaminated food is caused by this bacterium. During the last decades, the resistance of Salmonella isolates to conventional antibiotics has increased, which is a global health problem. The objective of this study was to investigate Salmonella serotypes in...
